Yoga Moves to Do During Your Study Break
Studying, homework, college apps, all of it can all lead to a lot of sitting, stiffness and overall discomfort. Taking study breaks can help you decompress so that you can focus better and feel better.
Taking study breaks where you move your body can help you feel less stiff and get a change of perspective. Even if you do not feel like fully getting up, small stretches at your desk can make a monumental (wink) difference. Make sure to breathe well during all of these stretches.
Shoulder rolls: sitting at your desk, slowly roll your shoulders up towards your ears forwards and backwards. Repeat as many times as you like and then relax your shoulders.
Open chest stretch: put your hands behind you, palms together, with your palms facing towards you. Slowly inhale and lift your chest, then exhale and relax your shoulders.
Neck stretch: sit up and forward in your chair. Sit up straight and drop your left ear toward your left shoulder, taking several deep breaths. Repeat on the other side as many times as you like.
Chair twist: sit diagonally near the edge of a chair. Take hold of the back of the chair with your left hand and grab your knee with your right hand. Breathe and make the stretch as deep as you would like it to be. Return to the center and repeat on the other side.
Reverse prayer pose: bring your hands together behind your back then rotate your hands upward towards your head, like a prayer position. To deepen the stretch do things like pressing your feet on the floor, press your palms together and press your hands into your back.
Twisted arms: sit upright, without your back touching the chair. With your arms out in front of you at shoulder level, put your right elbow in the crook of your left arm and bend your arms 90 degrees. Try to keep your hands as straight as you can. Return to center and alternate arms.
