During the school year, we hardly have any free time because of our schoolwork. While this is understandable, we need to make use of the free time we do have to go outside and spend time in nature. Summer is a great time to do this as we have a lot of free time. In this article, we’ll talk about the benefits of going outside, especially during the summer.

Sunlight Provides Vitamin D

Sunlight can give you Vitamin D, which is needed by the body for many purposes. It can help your cholesterol, your skin cells, and your brain. Vitamin D is responsible for building your muscle and bones, help your brain maintain good health, and preventing all sorts of diseases. Some people might say that all you have to do is be near a window in order to get this nutrient. However, studies show that even though the sun goes through the window, Vitamin D doesn’t. That’s why the best way to get Vitamin D is by actually going outside.

Sunlight can Improve Sleep Quality

Many people talk about how you need to have longer sleep times per night. While this is true, sleep quality is also equally as important. Research shows that sun exposure maintains your circadian rhythm, otherwise known as the internal clock. This is because sunshine gives your body melatonin, which helps you sleep when the day gets dark.

Sunlight can Boost your Mood

Sunlight and nature can help you become more active as well as improve your mental health in many different ways. For example, exposure to sunlight and nature can give you a serene environment, which can help calm your mood. Exposure to sunlight can also increase your serotonin levels, which decreases the likelihood of getting mood disorders and depression.

Sunlight can Boost your Immune System

Sunlight boosts your immune system by providing UV light. A good amount of UV light can protect your body against viruses and bacteria. This prevents diseases like influenza and psoriasis. You just need to be careful as too much UV light can cause other health problems, such as skin cancer.

How Much Time do You Need to Spend in the Sun?

On average, people should spend around 10-20 minutes per day in the sun. Spending time in the sun is generally a good thing but just remember to apply sunscreen if you’re planning to spend a long time outside, in the sun. If you spend too much time in the sun, especially without sunscreen, it could cause sunburn and/or skin cancer.
