Introduction
With August here, summer break is coming to an end, meaning back-to-school season is right around the corner. While this time of the year is not anyone’s favorite, it is important to set yourself up for success and be prepared for school or any other plans. However, the hardest step is always knowing where to start and to start the task. To get over this, take exactly three minutes to start doing the task, and include breaks throughout to stay motivated.
This article comes across various ways to get organized and grounded for these last few days of summer, in order to get ahead and save yourself from the stress later on.
The Importance of Getting Organized and Grounded
Why is it significant to use your last days of summer break to plan efficiently and get settled for the transition between summer and the start of the new school year? To put it simply, getting organized and grounded enhances the overall well-being, clarity, and productivity. Below are some of the reasons, detailedly explained.
Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Having too much on your plate can be the main trigger for stress and anxiety. Nonetheless, an organized space and a plan promote a sense of calmness and control over everything.
Improved Time Management: Organization is vital in scheduling and prioritizing tasks, immediately leading to helping you finish all tasks in a suitable time frame.
Increased Self-Confidence: Being able to successfully organize and having a plan can bring a sense of accomplishment, leading to a rise in self-esteem levels.
Better Relationships: Staying on top of your things can significantly give you time to build relationships and connections, as it becomes easier to spend quality time and focus on this specific aspect.
Increased Productivity: When you have everything ready to go, you can spend more time focusing on completing a task instead of worrying about how and when to start.
Enhanced Mental Clarity: A clear and clutter-free environment assists with clearer thinking and good decision-making without any distractions.
Improved Sleep: A calm space greatly contributes to a better, peaceful, and sleep environment, immediately improving sleep quality.
Ways to Use these Last Days of Summer Academically
Coming from personal experience, I can say that academically preparing myself in the summer has saved me a lot of stress in the first few months of school and has improved my overall performance compared to the years I didn’t. I think many students who go into the school year without getting grounded start having a hard time when coursework and extracurriculars begin, because many of them do not know how to manage everything on their plate right after transitioning from summer break. Which can lead to a lot of stress impacting grades and mental health. Nevertheless, here are a few ways that work the best to get organized and grounded.
Find suitable study techniques: This is one of the biggest and most important takeaways to having a successful academic year. Everyone is able to learn best using different ways, while some might be able to learn better using flashcards, others are able to study better by saying it out loud. In these last few days of summer, test out different study techniques to figure out which one is helping you learn faster. Already knowing how to study can be such a lifesaver throughout the school year and can greatly improve your test scores.
Clean your personal space: This is a simple way to be grounded before summer break comes to an end. Take at least an hour to deeply clean and declutter the space that you know you will be using during this school year. Having a clean space is like having a fresh start, and it can make you feel 10x times better.
Get in the habit of using planners: Whether it is an online planner or a physical planner, getting in the habit of writing down tasks is scientifically proven for an individual to get it done. Furthermore, planners help organize your day and ensure you do not forget a task. If you have a hard time using a planner, try making it aesthetic and appealing.
Plan a general routine: Make a detailed morning and night routine that consists of everything you need to do while, including time frames, and having it written down. Having a routine ready to go when school starts eliminates wondering when or what to do.
Gather and organize supplies: Acquire your necessary back-to-school supplies for this year to help you stay organized, such as notebooks, binders, folders, and color-coding labels. Try to keep everything organized and ready to go.
Plan and Prioritize: Use a calendar to map out all the upcoming events and deadlines to ensure a balanced schedule of school and activities.
Ways to Use these Last Days of Summer Mentally
While using these last days of summer to prepare academically is beneficial, it is even more important to take care of your mental health before summer break ends for an easy transition.
Engage in relaxing habits: Pursue hobbies that you enjoy and foster relaxation, while also considering spending time with friends and family.
Practice self-care: Find activities that help you unwind and destress, such as going on a walk, journaling, or meditation. This can be very instrumental in the long run when going through a lot of stress.
Focus on healthy habits: Fix your sleep schedules to ensure you get at least seven to eight hours of sleep, eat nutritious meals, and prioritize physical activity for not only physical well-being but mentally too.
Have a no-screen day: Spending a day without any electronics is a great help to your mental health and an escape from all negativity. Instead, go outside or engage in no-screen activities.
Conclusion
Getting organized and grounded does not take up the whole summer, but only two to three days, so before school starts, take a few days to use these ways to have a few successful months after summer break. These are some of my favorite ways to get settled and sorted out, which have helped me, and I know will help you too.
