Why are Screen Time Habits Bad?
Having too much screen time leads to many consequences. Humans started watching their phones, tablets and TV’s in the name of entertainment but soon they become obsessed with it and always have the desire to watch the screen instead of doing more productive activities. Even if you have nothing to do, watching TV should not be the first resort because it is actually unproductive. Too much screen time can lead to many issues such as obesity, which can cause multiple other diseases, sleep problems, chronic neck and back pain. It also takes a toll on your mental health by being a leading cause of depression, anxiety and lower performance in activities.
What else can I do though?
Cook or Bake
Cooking and baking are both very relaxing and productive ways to pass time instead of watching the screen. Also, in the end you have a delicious treat to enjoy.
Art!
Art is a hobby for most people but also a good screen time replacement. Drawing and painting is also very relaxing and beneficial for your mental health.
Learn to play an instrument
Learning to play an instrument is not only a good screen time replacement but also gives you an opportunity to make music. You will have fun doing it and make some new friends or find a common interest with someone else.
4. Read a Book
Reading a book is one of the best screen time replacements as it is basically like TV but reading it instead of watching it. Many find that books are even better than watching TV because it gives a more adventurous and descriptive feeling.
5. Volunteer
Volunteering is one of the best activities to do if you have a long period of time where you have nothing to do. You can help out at an elderly home, serve at a soup kitchen or even help the environment by joining an organization dedicated to saving the environment like Howard County Ecoworks.
