Get Organized Month - January
Introduction:
Staying organized is a key detail to consider if you want to feel less stressed and have more mental clarity, but the problem is, how do you even start?
The Right Mindset:
The first block you might experience will be wanting to get everything done at once, or maybe it’s not knowing where to start, maybe you want it to be perfect, maybe you think you don’t have enough time, or maybe you think someone will ruin it, maybe you don’t even want to do it at all, but I’ll give you some tips to overcome each of these problems.
How to Fix your Mindset:
You think you need to do it all at once:
It can be easy to get overwhelmed when you’re thinking about everything that needs to be fixed or organized in your home, but here’s the thing, you can break it down! Start by picking one task and completing that one, don’t worry about anything else, or what else might be getting even more unorganized as you clean, it’s a step by step process, and you’ll get there.
You don’t know where to start:
When you don’t know where to start, the best advice is to just start. Start with anywhere in your home, and start cleaning and organizing there. Personally, when I don’t know where to start, I guide myself from the very entry of my home and go through step by step, from the entry to the very back of the house, just fix what you see.
You want it to be perfect:
Here’s the secret to this one, nothing is perfect. Organizing isn’t perfect the first time you try it, and it’s not easy by any means. If it was easy and could be achieved perfectly within the first try, everyone would do it and have perfectly organized homes. But it’s not easy, and they don’t, so just try to do your best, remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
You think you don’t have time:
We all have busy schedules and many things to do everyday, but to get organized, it’s a slow process, and it saves time in the long run! You won’t have to spend minutes searching for your keys if you already know where they are, and you won’t have to spend 10 minutes picking out an outfit if you already have it planned! And here’s the really good one, you won’t have to spend an hour doing dishes if you do them after every meal or whenever you dirty something!
You think your family will ruin it:
This can be avoided if you just talk to them. Talk to your roommates, spouse, kids, family, etc. You can’t expect them to know what to do if you don’t tell them about it. So pick a specific spot for each item and show them where that is, they probably won’t get it the first time, but with some time and practice, it’ll work out!
You simply don’t want to:
Not wanting to organize is understandable, but if you spend a lot of time at your home, how do you want to feel when you get home? It’s okay if you don’t mind it, but if you do, you can find ways to make it more entertaining, such as listening to music, making calls, listening to podcasts, multitasking, or even watching TV! A personal favorite is watching TV while I fold clothes or listening to podcasts while I do dishes!
